Panoramic views at Shakespear Regional Park
Situated at the end of a narrow peninsula, Shakespear Regional Park offers sweeping cliff top views and a beach along either side.
If you're feeling more energetic there are several walking trails to discover. The Heritage Trail passes through native forest, wetlands and farmland to reach historic sites including a World War II gun emplacement. The Tiri Tiri Track takes you from Te Haruhi Bay along the beach and past an old Maori settlement before following the cliff line to views of Tiritiri Matangi Island wildlife sanctuary. Native birds from the sanctuary have begun migrating across to the regenerating native forest in the park.
A tent camping ground at Te Haruhi Bay can be booked by contacting the Auckland Regional Council. There are also a few motorhome sites available. Shakespear Regional Park is about 40 minutes drive north of central Auckland.

See the beauty of Alice Eaves Scenic Reserve
Explore a 16-hectare remnant of coastal kauri-broadleaf forest. Common species include kahikatea, karaka, kōwhai, mataī, pūriri, rewarewa, supplejack, taraire and large numbers of nīkau.
The reserve has short walks accessible via tracks and pedestrian walkways, and a lower walkway running along Nukumea Stream to Kensington Park. A higher track by the Hillcrest Road entrance visits the pā site, which was occupied as recently as 1827.
Walk, run or cycle the Te Ara Tahuna Estuary cycleway and walkway
Great family-friendly walk or ride along the water's edge, through parks and bush trails. The route loops around the beautiful Ōrewa estuary, exploring the natural and historical significance of the area.
Enjoy estuary views while spotting wildlife, paddle boarders and kite surfers. The path features Māori carvings and tributes to the estuary's past as a significant food gathering place for Māori.
The wide path is mainly flat and sealed, so it is suitable for all fitness levels. It's an excellent ride for people new to cycling, or riding with children on bikes or scooters.
